Objectives of the establishment

The Neris Regional Park has been established to protect the landscape of the Neris River midsection as well as other natural and cultural heritage values:

  • The especially valuable Neris River midsection loops system, the lower reaches of the Bražuolė River, rich Neris River valley forest biotic communities, especially Dūkštas Oak Forest;
  • Cultural heritage values – one of the oldest settlements in Lithuania which is a complex of archeological values distributed along the Neris River between Vilnius and Kernavė, featuring the Dūkštas church and cemetary, Paneriai Park, the Krmazinai, Buivydau, Bradeliškiai, Velniakampis, Viršupis and Rėva castle mounds, the Karmazinai and Popiai barrows;
  • The stability of the natural ecosystem, its biotic components, chararcteristic flora and fauna, and the natural migratory fish routes and spawning grounds.
